8 Awesome Benefits of Energy-Efficient Windows

3 Nov 2020
NuEnergy BlogEco-Friendly Tips

You lose about 25 to 30% of your home’s energy through your windows. That means you’re essentially taking your money and dumping it straight in the trash can.

But you can’t board up your windows, so how are you supposed to minimize this energy loss? The best strategy is to replace all the windows in your home with new, energy-efficient windows.

Sound too expensive? You don’t have to make the switch all at once. Try saving up for a few months than changing two to three windows at a time. If you stick to this method, you’ll upgrade your entire home faster than you might think (and you won’t go into debt either).

If you don’t think making the switch to energy-efficient windows is worth it, think again. We’ve put together this guide to show you some of the biggest benefits of installing this type of window in your home, so make sure you keep reading below!

1. You’ll Save Money on Your Energy Bill

Energy-efficient windows have more insulation than normal, single-pane windows. Instead of consisting of a single sheet of glass, energy-efficient windows have two (or sometimes three) glass panes that sandwich a pocket of air between them. These layers prevent hot and warm air from passing through them as easily, meaning it keeps the outside air from getting into your home and the inside air from escaping.

Because of this, you won’t have to run your HVAC system as often to keep your house warm during the winter or cold during the summer. Turning the heater and air conditioner for shorter periods of time saves you money on your energy bill at the end of the month.

2. Your Home Will Feel More Comfortable

Your home will be able to maintain a comfortable temperature if you make the switch to energy efficient windows. No more waking up freezing in the middle of the night or standing in front of the open refrigerator in the middle of the afternoon.

Instead, you can relax in your home enjoying that perfect temperature (no matter how hot or cold you prefer to keep it).

3. There Are a Lot of Design Options to Choose From

If you’re replacing your current windows with energy-efficient upgrades, you don’t have to worry about not being able to find the right fit for your home. These types of windows come in a wide variety of styles, colors, frame material, etc. No matter what type of house you own, whether it’s a modern design or a ranch-style building, you can find something that complements your home.

4. They Prevent Mold Growth

One of the biggest problems with single-pane windows is the amount of condensation that forms on the inside of the glass. This condensation can drip down the glass, puddle on the window frame, or even run down the wall.

Unless you’re wiping up this water every day (which can be a big job if you have a lot of windows in your home), the windows frames, walls, floor, and nearby furniture can absorb this moisture and lead to mold growth. Not only will this ruin your home and belongings, but it can also create an unhealthy living environment for you and your family.

5. You Won’t Have to Worry About Water Damage

Even if the window condensation doesn’t cause mold growth, it can lead to a lot of other water damage problems.

For example, the paint on your wall can start peeling. The hardwood floor underneath the window can bubble, warp, or otherwise misshape. The furniture form water spots and stains.

Ignoring these issues will just make them worse, and fixing them or buying replacement furniture will cost you a lot of extra money.

6. They’re Better for the Environment

Remember, energy-efficient windows let you turn off the HVAC system more often. That means you’re using less power that comes from fossil-fuel sources, so you’re expelling less pollution into the environment.

If you’re looking for ways to create an eco-friendly home, making the switch to these windows is one of the best ways to get started.

7. You Won’t Have to Spend as Much Time on Maintenance

Since energy-efficient windows prevent condensation from forming on the inside of your house, you won’t have to spend nearly as much time maintaining them. All you have to do to keep these windows in good condition give them regular cleanings. No wiping up puddles of water, battling mold, scrubbing of water spots, or touching up your paint required.

8. The Loud, Outside Noises Won’t Make It Inside

The better insulation energy-efficient windows provide doesn’t just make an impact on your energy bill. It also helps soundproof your home.

All those loud sounds from the busy street or noisy neighbors stay out of the house. This means you can get better sleep at night, which will improve your work performance and increase the overall quality of your life.

Making the Switch to Energy-Efficient Windows

Energy-efficient windows cost more money upfront, but they can save you a lot of money in the long run. It’s worth investing extra money on windows that keep you comfortable, keep you healthy, and keep the environment in good condition. Not to mention they’ll help you enjoy your home and your sleep!
